Festival Director
Leads MFPC’s film festival and event work, including submissions, filmmaker communication, jury coordination, programming and event delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead programming, filmmaker communication and event planning with a festival team.
- Track film titles, approved credits, runtimes, screening permissions and technical materials.
- Plan projection, sound, accessibility, staffing, arrivals and event tasks.
- Develop a feasible programme using confirmed funding and venue arrangements.
Planning the work
Start by agreeing the work and the people involved:
- Prepare a programme concept and recruit initial team support.
- List venue, technical, accessibility and staffing needs.
- Share essential costs and dependencies with Partnerships and Operations, then bring the plan to the co-presidents.
Keeping work moving
Review film readiness and permissions alongside venue requirements, funding and team progress. Reconcile runtime, transitions and technical checks. Keep dates and publicity aligned with confirmed arrangements. Agree practical owners and backups, and report decisions needed at Board discussions.
Working with other teams
Coordinate with the teams involved:
- Production Director: Receive the club film’s tested screening copy, credits, runtime and permission information.
- Partnership & Development Director: Supply funding needs and assess the conditions of secured support.
- Operations Director: Coordinate budget inputs, practical needs, dates and event logistics.
- Marketing Director: Provide confirmed event details, filmmaker-approved credits and permitted assets.
Decisions and support
Take venue terms and external commitments to the co-presidents before agreement; spending is decided jointly with Operations. Raise funding, availability, permissions, technical or accessibility gaps with options before announcing arrangements.
Leaving a useful handoff
Leave the agreed programme, tested files, technical instructions, staffing plan, permissions, credits and delivery notes for the event team and future organisers.
Taking part
Members can respond to announced opportunities involving programming, communication, practical arrangements and work on the day.
Directors may approach general members first when recruiting smaller teams for their committee. Agree your responsibilities and availability before taking on a role.
